Introduction
Living Wage Movement Aotearoa New Zealand ("LWMANZ," "we," "us," "our") takes your privacy seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information, whether you are a financial supporter, volunteer, partner, staff member, event participant, fundraiser, campaigner, applying to become a Living Wage Employer, enquiring about becoming a Living Wage Employer, a member organisation, or applying to work with us.
Personal information is information by which you may be identified directly or that has the capacity to identify you. This Privacy Policy explains how LWMANZ collects, stores, uses, and shares your personal information.
Openness and transparency are important to us. The Privacy Act 2020 (the "Act") requires us to provide certain information about the personal information we collect to carry out our functions. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect and hold your personal information, how we use and disclose it, and how you can access and correct the personal information we hold about you, in accordance with the Act.
We may also collect other information that is not necessarily personal information, including your IP address, cookies, and details about your device, browser, and operating system.
Purpose and Operations
Living Wage Movement Aotearoa New Zealand is an incorporated society that:
- Facilitates the organisation of communities to secure the income necessary to provide workers with the basic necessities of life.
- Raises public awareness and understanding of the issues associated with low-income workers and the importance of those issues to the wider community.

The Privacy Officer is the most senior staff member of LWMANZ.
Situations you may share information with us and how we use it
Employers enquiring about or applying for Living Wage Employer accreditation, and accredited Living Wage Employers
Employers may share the following information:
- The nature of their business, including number of staff, services, and procurement contracts.
- A record of any queries, communications, or meetings with us or external parties related to their business, such as contractors.
- Any other information that they authorise us to collect (e.g., stories, quotes).
We collect this information to:
- Understand whether the Living Wage Employer programme is the right fit for your business.
- Provide guidance for achieving Living Wage Employer accreditation.
- Ensure that employers meet the accreditation criteria.
- Understand the nature of businesses participating in the Living Wage Employer programme.
Information Sharing
Besides our staff, we may share the information you provide with:
- The Accreditation Advisory Committee, which processes Living Wage Employer accreditation applications. Advisory Committee members sign confidentiality agreements where they agree to protect the information they have access to, and abide by our privacy policy.
- Members of LWMANZ/Employer working groups, which may include LWMANZ volunteers. Working groups may determine the parties and content of confidentiality agreements.
- The Living Wage Movement Governance Board and Principal Partners to update them on the Living Wage Employer programme, but only where the information is already public knowledge.
If you choose not to provide the information required to prove LWE accreditation requirements have been met, we may be unable to approve the application.
During the application process, you may request that LWMANZ sign confidentiality agreements. The Privacy Officer and other relevant parties will sign these on behalf of LWMANZ.
When you become an accredited Living Wage Employer, the confidentiality clauses in your license will apply.
If your application is not completed for any reason, we will destroy any information provided by you within 12 months, or on your request.
Supporters and volunteers, including individuals and those connected to Member Organisations
We only collect personal data relevant to your interaction with LWMANZ. You may give us personal data directly when you donate, sign up for an event, participate in a campaign, volunteer, or communicate with us. In these cases, we may process details such as your name, email address, postal address, phone number, and payment details for donations.
If you participate in an event, we may collect sign-in information, registration details, or feedback. We may also take photographs, videos, or conduct interviews. These materials may be used to promote events, campaigns, or LWMANZ’s work on our website, social media, or other platforms. You can request removal of your image from this material.
LWMANZ also collects publicly available information about individuals relevant to our work, including major donors, public figures, and Members of Parliament, to inform our campaigning and advocacy efforts
Storing and Destroying Information
We keep your information safe by storing it in Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint and limiting access to relevant staff and/or senior volunteers who have a confidentiality agreement. We may use third-party services to store, administer, or view information. We assess risks and ensure appropriate measures are in place.
Requesting Access to Your Information
You have the right to request a copy of any personal information we hold about you and ask for corrections if necessary. To do so, contact us at [email protected].
Personal Data Related to Events and Participation
LWMANZ may collect sensitive personal data, such as your views on our work, or union membership, where it is necessary for our work. This data is stored securely and not shared with third parties.
Third-Party Disclosure
LWMANZ does not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may disclose personal information to service providers who assist in our operations, legal authorities as required by law, or other parties with your consent.
Accessing or Correcting Your Personal Information
You are responsible for informing us of any changes to your personal information. If your information is incorrect, you may ask us to correct it.
Controlling Communications from Us

Once we receive your complaint, we will respond to you within a reasonable period of time, within 20 working days.
We will respond and advise whether we agree with your complaint. If we do not agree, we will provide reasons. If we do agree, we will advise what (if any) action we consider appropriate to take in response.
