$21.15 is the 2019 Living Wage

The official 2019 New Zealand Living Wage is $21.15. The 60 cent increase will come into effect on 1 September 2019.

The Living Wage is defined as: The income necessary to provide workers and their families with the basic necessities of life. A Living Wage will enable workers to live with dignity and to participate as active citizens in society.

Living Wage National Convenor, Annie Newman, says that it has been another successful year with more than 130 employers signing up for Living Wage Employer accreditation, including three corporates, Wellington City Council, and almost every sector and industry from the small towns like Tekapo to the big cities.

With local government elections this year, the Movement is focused on gaining commitments from many more councils, including those on the journey to the Living Wage, including Auckland, Hutt City, Porirua City, Christchurch and Waikato Regional Council.
